Indian Men’s Hockey team create history in Paris, beat Australia after 52 years in Olympics

Paris : Indian Men’s Hockey team write their name in history books as they defeated Australia 3-2 at Yves-du-Manoir Stadium, Colombes for 1st time since 1972 Munich Olympics.

Skipper Harmanpreet Singh’s brace (13′, 32′), Abhishek (12′) scored the 3 goals.

In 1st Quarter, Abhishek opened scoring for India after Lalit Upadhyay made the chance inner circle. Skipper Harmanpreet doubled the lead a minute later.

Starting from 2nd quarter, Indian Goalkeeper PR Sreejesh emerged as hero for India making incredible saves. Despite his efforts, Thomas Craig opened the scoring for Aussies from close range.

In 3rd Quarter, India were awarded Penalty stroke and Harmanpreet converted it successfully for India to give 3-1 lead.

India had another goal coming in the final quarter from Abhishek, but a stick tackle in the lead up meant the goal was cancelled upon referral. Blake Glovers scored from the spot after a stroke was awarded to Australia with five minutes left, but the Indian defence kept Aussies in check in the remaining minutes to pick up 3 points.

The Indian team with 3 wins in 5 Matches will next feature in Quarterfinals on August 5.
