Canberra: In the ever-competitive world of cricket, players surely rely on their skill-set to outperform their opponents. While keeping the wickets for their respective teams, wicketkeepers often leave no stone unturned to make it difficult for the opposition players.

Leaving all the technique behind Indian batsman, KL Rahul showed a rare side of the wicket-keepers by heart-warming reception for the Australia youngster Cameron Green, who made his international debut during the final ODI against India on Wednesday (December 2).

He admitted that he was ‘taken back’ by the warmth showed by Rahul during the third ODI in Canberra. “I was actually taken back with how nice KL Rahul was behind the stumps. He asked me whether I was nervous or not and I just replied saying ‘Yeah, I was a little bit nervous’. He was like ‘Yeah, go well youngster’ type of thing. So I was actually a bit taken back by how nice KL Rahul was behind the stumps,” Green said after the match.

Green said he thought he would receive a bit of a hostile reception, but he was surprised by Rahul’s gesture. He admitted he’ll always remember this. On the other hand, Green became the 230th player from Australia to play ODIs for his country.

“I thought it would have been pretty opposite because (while bowling), I think Virat was trying to be pretty loud at the time. Obviously early I was a bit scratchy…it took me a few balls to get used to it a bit but unfortunately in that situation, you had to get yourself in quickly. I had Finchy down the other end who was absolutely awesome.

“I think every ball he came up to me and said ‘good job youngster, keep going, you’re batting well, you’ve got plenty of time’. Having him at the other end was pretty special for a guy who has played someone with that experience at the other end helping you out when you first start, I can’t thank him enough, I’ll remember that forever,” Green added.
