The Mumbaikar recently replaced Virat Kohli in the ODI’s ahead of upcoming South Africa with BCCi sighting the ICC T20 World Cup next year and the 50 over World Cup in 2023.

The controversy revolved around the decision BCCI created much hype with speculations are there that Kohli, who was quite adamant to keep his captaincy in 50 over format was thrown out of the post by the governing body. While his own batting form dipped, a big reason behind the axing maybe also the fact that somehow the Delhi man failed to keep the team spirit high within the dressing room. Amidst these, Rohit, the newly appointed skipper recently indirectly hinted about Kohli not being a team player all-round.

In a show named Backstage with Boria Majumder and Xtra Time, Rohit opened about mentality, the side should poesses , “At the end of the day, we play a team game. It’s not individual sport.” added, the newly appointed coach.

“So, what you achieve as a team is very, very important to me. It’s something that I want to achieve that team goal – which is to win the championships. We have a few world cups coming up. There is a lot of things we need to do to get that championship”, he further said.

The statement might hint towards his teammate and Test captain Kohli’s role as a leader of pack who has been heavily criticised for being quite stubborn and self-centred while managing and earning the trust of his players.

The Mumbaikar stated the importance of the role of everyone in side being there of each which is quite crucial especially in big tournaments.

“When you play the sport, you want to achieve the best. And I feel the best I feel is winning the championship. You might score many runs, many hundreds but winning that championship always stays with you. You know why? Because that’s a collective effort from the team.”, Rohit also stated.

While Kohli’s role handling and backing the players has been put on the radar after his failure to deliver at ICC tournaments, Rohit on the other hand has always been seen a next door man by his teammates earning the trust of the players which was quite evident when the Mumbaikar lead successfully Mumbai Indians to multiple IPL titles.
