Kolkata : Indian Senior Men’s Cricket Team lost a Home Series after 12 years remaining undefeated. New Zealand defeated them in both Bengaluru and Pune by big margins, bringing hurdles to their smooth road to ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final, 2025 berth.

India currently hold ghe top spot in the WTC standings with a percentage of 62.82 after 13 matches. Australia is second with 62.50, followed by Sri Lanka at 55.56.

Despite being confident and favourites to win the series seeing India’s previous dominance for 12 years at home and New Zealand’s recent form after being defeated to Sri Lanka in Test Series, the loss has raised lot’s of questions and doubts over final qualification for the Indian team.

How can India qualify for ICC WTC 2025 Final?

After India’s second consecutive loss to New Zealand, its PCT dropped to 62.82.

India have one match left at Mumbai in the ongoing series against New Zealand.

After the series, India will travel to Australia for 5-match Test Series in Border Gavaskar Trophy starting from November 22 to January 3. India’s fortune will heavily depend especially on this series.

Out of the 6 matches remaining (1 vs NZ, 5 vs AUS ), Rohit Sharma and his team will have to win atleast 4 matches to secure a final berth in WTC Final, without relying on other team’s results.

If they fail to achieve this, India will have to depend on favourable outcomes from other series, particularly those involving the other contenders.

Sri Lanka, for example, will play both Australia and South Africa in this WTC cycle, and those results will directly impact India’s chances of reaching its third straight WTC final.
