Kolkata : Maharashtra Cricket legend Ankeet Bawane has opened up and acknowledged the captaincy qualities of current Maharashtra and Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, saying he learnt such things from former Indian and Chennai Super Kings Legendary skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
Gaikwad has shown his captaincy brilliance lot of times. He has captained in different levels at domestic and international Cricket, including India A, India, Chennai Super Kings, Maharashtra and so on.
His notable achievement in captaincy includes winning Asian Games Gold for India back in 2023.
The youngster also took over captaincy for CSK last year replacing the great MS Dhoni, who has been an integral part in grooming Gaikwad.
This Ranji season, Gaikwad took over the captaincy charges for Maharashtra , a team comprised of youngsters and in transition phase.
Speaking of Gaikwad’s captaincy, Ankeet Bawane, the great Maharashtra Batter opened up saying that he has a calm and composed natured leader that is required for the brand of Cricket Maharashtra play and the team enjoys playing under his captaincy.
“He’s calm and composed we need somebody like that. The pattern of Cricket we play we need someone to be calm and composed and he brings exactly same on the table. He’s been captaining most of the teams like India A, CSK now. So it’s very good for us, as somebody so experienced and proving himself at bigger level, coming back leading Maharashtra, it’s a bonus for us and we all enjoy playing under his captaincy”, said Bawane in an exclusive Phone Interview with Sportslight Media.
Gaikwad is an integral part of CSK set up since 2020 , played vital role in winning them 2021, 2023 titles and closely worked with their former leader MS Dhoni. Bawane reveals that he takes his own time taking big decision, a quality that he might have learnt from the legend Dhoni himself.
“He’s somebody who likes to take his time making decisions & since he’s been in CSK he must have learnt that from MS Dhoni so it’s a very good thing”, Bawane concluded.
