EPL: Liverpool, Chelsea drop points; Manchester City extend lead

London: Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur played out a 2-2 draw in a dramatic match in a Premier League fixture on Sunday (December 19). Manchester City on the other hand breezed past New Castle with a 4-0 victory. Chelsea played a goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux

Spurs started against the Reds brightly, and it was Kane who took full advantage and opened the scoring, as he slotted home a through ball from Tanguy Ndombele. However, Diogo Jota pulled back the equalizer for Jurgen Klopp’s men on 35 minutes, heading home a cross from Andy Robertson.

Robertson gave his team the lead before he was sent off. Trent Alexander-Arnold fired a cross which was headed home by Robertson. But he saw a red moments after the restart of the game, when he kicked late and high, through the back of Emerson Royal.

He was initially given a yellow, but the referee Anthony Taylor changed it after consulting the Video Assistant Referee.

Son Heung-Min scored the equalizer on 74 minutes as the match ended with no result. But as for City, they had it easy against New Castle as the latter stood no chance in front of Pep Guardiola’s men.

Ruben Dias scored an early goal, and strikes from Joao Cancelo, Riyad Mahrez, and Raheem Sterling helped Pep Guardiola’s side secure a comfortable victory over Eddie Howe’s side. City managed to win all of their last seven league matches.

With, Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner, and Callum Hudson-Odoi out for Covid, Chelsea dropped further points in the league title race as Thomas Tuchel’s side could not find the back of the net. The game ended in a goalless draw and Chelsea are now six points behind league leaders, City. Chelsea has 38 points to City’s 44 in 18 matches.
