Edu Bedia, Jorge Ortiz and more foreign players FC Goa to count on

Kolkata : FC Goa, who recently impressed with their performance in AFC Champions League and also won the Durand Cup 2021.  Although they had to end AFC Champions League campaign with no victory to their name, their brilliant display of football with characterized swift passing and movement were very much appreciated.

As for now the Gaurs will be gearing up for the upcoming season of Indian Super League. Juan Ferrando will be coaching the Goa side, this will be his second year incharge of the Gaurs and they would be aiming nothing less than the ultimate glory. With much said, here is a look at the foreign players who will feature for FC Goa in season 2021-22.

1. Dylan Fox :

The Australian centre back,who previously played for North East United, left his mark in the backline during that time. He was a crucial part of Khalid Jamil’s side who attained a top three finish. Judging from his previous cameo, it can be expected he will help strengthen the backline of Juan Ferrando’s team. The coach will entrust him with duties to lead the defensive line.

2. Edu Bedia :

The Spanish midfielder needs no new introduction. The 32 year old is one of the key players for the Gaurs. Edu Bedia, who captains the Goa side is a name that is trusted by both the coach as well as the fans.
The Spaniard scored the lone goal during the final of Durand Cup which won Goa their title against Mohammedan SC. During the AFC Champions League, he also scored against Persepolis FC, a match which Goa lost eventually but he became the first player to achieve this for an Indian Club.

3. Jorge Ortiz :

The 29 year old who mainly plays as a right winger will be a player the coach would look up to for scoring goals. A definitive figure for the Gaurs in their attack. Ortiz has scored six goals in 21 matches for the FC Goa in ISL previously.He also scored against Qatari club Al Rayyan SC in the AFC Champions League.Juan Ferrando would be looking to extract more goals out of him for the upcoming season of ISL.

4. Ivan Gonzalez :

Yet another Spaniard on the list, the defender who came through the youth ranks of Real Madrid, is a force to reckon with in the backline. Ivan Gonzalez played a crucial role in FC Goa’s third place finish in AFC Champions League group stage. He went from strength to strength and provided the much needed stability at the back. He also has two goals to his name in the previous edition of ISL, playing for the Gaurs.

5. Alberto Noguera :

The Madrid born midfielder, previously played for the likes of Atletico Madrid and Blackpool. He starred for the side of Goa who won the 130th edition of Durand Cup after defeating fellow ISL competitors Bengaluru FC in semifinal and Mohammedan SC in final.

6. Airam Cabrera :

Another Spanish player in the side of FC Goa. The 34 year old has a knack for scoring goals. He has previously been top scorer in the lower divisions for Tenerife B. Juan Ferrando would be looking to use his goal scoring flare for the benefit of the Gaurs for the upcoming season of ISL.
