Manchester: Manchester United shared the announcement for arrival of Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag from Ajax to take over the charges of the first team, replacing interim manager Ralf Rangnick. Rangnick was given the charge of the team following the sacking of Ole Gunner Solskjaer in November. The news of Erik’s arrival heaved a sigh of relief onto the Manchester United fans after the ’embarassing’ 4-0 loss to arch rival Liverpool.

“It is a great honour to be appointed manager of Manchester United and I am hugely excited by the challenge ahead.” the former Ajax manager told the Manchester United official website.

“I know the history of this great club and the passion of the fans, and I am absolutely determined to develop a team capable of delivering the success they deserve.” he added.

“It will be difficult to leave Ajax after these incredible years, and I can assure our fans of my complete commitment and focus on bringing this season to a successful conclusion before I move to Manchester United.” he continued.

Ten Hag has been the head coach of Ajax since December 2017. He joined the Dutch club from Bayern Munich’s second team, where he worked alongside Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager. He guided Ajax to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019, where they lost toTottenham. Ajax won the Eredivisie title in 2019 and 2021 and are currently top of the table by four points.

However, at the same time, Erik is taking over United in a time when the club is in dire straits at 6th position with two below Champions League qualification, with the star players underperforming and many underlying problems. Manchester United will be seen in action under Erik Ten Hag on April 23rd against Arsenal.
