Kolkata : Anwar Ali saga came to an official end with East Bengal announcing the signing of the Indian defender on a 5 year deal on an undisclosed transfer fee from Delhi FC.
There were fiascos regarding the defender’s ultimate destiny after intense tug of war between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan – whom Anwar played for in previous season.
However, all came to an end when Ranjit Bajaj landed to Kolkata airport with Anwar Ali donning East Bengal jersey.
Today East Bengal made official statement regarding the signing, bringing the matter to an end.

Joining East Bengal FC, Anwar said, “I am honoured and excited to wear the Red & Gold jersey. The reception that I got at the Kolkata Airport was overwhelming and the fans have already shown me a lot of love and support. East Bengal FC Head Coach Carles Cuadrat commented, “In Anwar, we have got another national team player who will give us much-needed experience at the top level and the quality and physicality in the squad that we are trying to build for the next few years. Major Achievements of Anwar Ali
Anwar Ali has been a vital part of India in winning the Tri Nation Series, Intercontinental Cup & SAFF 2023. He was the top scorer of Delhi FC in I-League 2021 qualifiers.
For East Bengal’s rival club Mohun Bagan, the defender played key role in winning the Durand Cup 2023 & ISL League Shield 2023.
Anwar’s inclusion in East Bengal will strengthen their defense.
