Kolkata : BCCI announced 16 members squad for 1st Test against Bangladesh. Risabh Pant has returned to the side for 1st time since his car accident in 2023. Virat Kohli, who made himself unavailable for selection in the 5 match Test series against England citing “personal reasons” is also back to the side. Left arm pacer Yash Dayal has earned his maiden call up for Indian Test team.
Speculations and waits for return of Mohammed Shami still continues as the pacer isn’t in the squad even after speculations of return from Bangladesh series. Sources now say that he might return from New Zealand Tests.
Arshdeep Singh , who’s said to be a hot choice for Border Gavaskar Trophy didn’t find a place, hence, Dayal makes his way into the squad.
Other names like Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan didn’t get selected.
Skipper Rohit Sharma along with youths like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and veteran Virat Kohli form the top order.
KL Rahul despite speculations for dropping owing to struggling form has returned to the squad.
Young keepers like Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel retained their place in the lineup after fabulous Test series against England. They’ll however won’t serve as 1st choice keepers owing to Pant’s presence.
Veteran spinners like Ravi Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav have made their way into the squad.
The pacer department sees Jasprit Bumrah returning to international action for 1st time after ICC T20 WC 2024 final win. Along with him veteran Mohammad Siraj has made his way.
Youngster Akash Deep who’s in red hot form in Domestic circuit & showered good spells against England will be seen rolling his arms. Left arm pacer Yash Dayal earned his maiden call up.
The 2 match Test series against Bangladesh will start from September 19.
The squad for 2nd Test will be announced later.
