Munich: A thumping hat-trick from Robert Lewandowski powered Bayern Munich to seal a 4-2 victory against Borussia Dortmund in Bundesliga on Saturday (March 7).

Erling Haaland smashed twice inside the opening 10 minutes for the visitors at the Allianz Arena giving the hosts early scares in the Der Klassikaler before Lewandowski showcased his goal-scoring prowess scoring twice in first half.

Leon Goretzka found the net late in the game with Lewandowski completing his hat-trick in the 89th minute. The win saw Bayern back to the Bundesliga summit two points clear of RB Leipzig.

Dortmund despite missing a few key players took the fight against the defending champions. Haaland broke the deadlock after 74 seconds as his strike from the outside box got deflected off Jerome Boateng beating Manuel Neuer before Norwegian ghosted for his second of the evening just seven minutes later meeting Thorgan Hazard’s cross.

After settling down the bit, Bayern started to come into their groove. Sane set up Lewandowski making it 2-1 before the Bayern no.9 equalised converted his spot-kick after VAR penalised Mahmoud Dahoud’s challenge Kingsley Coman inside the penalty area.

Chances came from both ends thick and fast in the second half. Hazard’s thumping volley hit the side-netting while Coman’s effort from close-range was brilliantly denied by Dortmund goalkeeper Marwin Hitz.

The Bavarians turned up the heat in the later part taking the game away from the visitors. Goretzka’s thumping volley put the hosts ahead before Lewandowski completed his hat-trick with a clinical finish sealing the deal.
