2022 Asian Games to have 10 archery events

Lausanne: The World governing body (WA) stated on Friday that the archery competition at the next year’s Asian Games will feature a complete array of ten events for the first time.

The mixed disciplines had been introduced by the Jakarta-Palembang 2018 Asiad, while the two individual events in the compound division had been withdrawn.

“But this time there would be a full slate of 10 competitions including the compound men’s and women’s individual section,” a World Archery official told PTI .

With India boasting a strong compound squad, the development might energize Indian archers.

In 2018, India won only two silver medals, both in compound events (men’s and women’s teams).

The 2022 Asian Games will be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 10 to September 25. Chung Euisun was also re-elected as president of the World Archery Asia Congress.

Meanwhile, Pramod Chandurkar, secretary general of the Archery Association of India, was chosen as an executive member of the WAA during its Congress here.

Chandurkar stated that the Asian Archery Championships will be held in India in the future.

“We will push for the 2022 Asian Championships. Our focus would be to improve the sport at grassroots level in India,” Chandurkar said.

The WAA has 28 member nations, five executive members, and three vice presidents.
