You have lived and breathed cricket: PM Narendra Modi’s letter to Suresh Raina

New Delhi: Indian all-rounder Suresh Raina has already announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15 through a post in his Instagram, minutes after Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s retirement.

On Friday ( August 21) Prime Minister Narendra Modi penned a heartfelt letter thanking Raina for doing whatever he had done to make India a leader in sports and constantly inspired the young minds. The southpaw posted the two page letter in his twitter, and wrote “When we play, we give our blood & sweat for the nation. No better appreciation than being loved by the people of this country and even more by the country’s PM. Thank you @narendramodi ji for your words of appreciation & best wishes. I accept them with gratitude. Jai Hind!”

PM Modi  praised about Raina’s team spirit “you played not for personal glory but for the glory of your team and the glory of India.”

Raina is the first Indian batsman to hit century in all three formats of international cricket. He has captained the Indian cricket team and is the second-youngest player ever to captain India. At the age of 19, Raina made his ODI debut in July 2005 against Sri Lanka.Raina has scored 768 runs in Test matches, 5,615 runs in ODI and 1,605 runs in T20I .

Raina will continue to play in the 13th edition of IPL next to Dhoni for Chennai Super Kings. IPL 2020 will be held in the UAE from September 19 due to the rising COVID-19 impact in India.
