WTC Final : Virat Kohli’s gritty performance steers India to 146/3 on Day 2

Southampton: Bad light spoils the party of second day of the World Test Championship. India finish on 146/3 in 64.4 overs with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane remain unbeaten.

Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and elected to field first. India’s opening duo Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill gave a good start to their side in the first session with a 62-run partnership. Soon, Rohit got out for 34 to Kyle Jamieson and Gill lost his wicket to Neil Wagner after scoring 28 runs.

After lunch India lost their third wicket as Cheteshwar Pujara had to return back to the pavilion after being dismissed by Trent Boult, scoring only 8 runs. Though, Tim Southee had a tough day with the ball as he could not find line and length.

India at time was 88/3, then captain Virat Kohli and deputy Ajinkya Rahane hold the key  for India. The duo have put on unbeaten 58 runs for the fourth wicket. Kohli is inching closer to his half-century batting on 44 and looking solid at the pitch. Whereas, Rahane scored 29 respectively and took India to 146 for 3 at stumps.

Kohli also becomes the sixth Indian batsman and 42nd overall to score 7,500 runs in Test cricket. To reach the huge milestone Kohli took 154 innings, equalising with the former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar.

Meanwhile, Indian cricket team also pay their homage to legendary sprinter Milkha Singh by wearing black armbands. Singh, who breathed his last on Friday, was 91-year-old.
