Mumbai: Kolkata Knight Riders left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav has put forth the difference between playing under an Indian skipper and an international skipper.

After Eoin Morgan took over as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders midway through the 2020 season, the youngster had his first taste of playing under an international skipper. Since Morgan took over as KKR captain from Karthik, Kuldeep hasn’t gotten much of an opportunity in the playing eleven. In 45 IPL matches, Kuldeep has only picked up 40 wickets at an economy rate of 8.28.

In the case of an Indian captain, Kuldeep stated that it is simple to approach for discussions on many topics. When it came to speaking with abroad skippers, Kuldeep has believed that the “communication gap deepens.”

“If the coaches have worked with you before and are with you for a prolonged period of time, they understand you better. But it becomes very difficult when the communication is weak. Sometimes you don’t even know that whether you will be playing or not, or what the team expects from you.” Kuldeep told on Akash Chopra’s YouTube channel.

Yadav also took a dig at captain Eoin Morgan, suggesting that having an Indian captain of the team makes a whole lot of difference. Morgan stepped as a skipper midway through last season.

“It undoubtedly makes a significant difference. I’ve just played under Eoin Morgan’s captaincy so far. We had never met much before he was named captain of the KKR. I usually saw him when we played against England. I don’t know how Eoin Morgan sees me. In such cases, the communication gap increases.”

“When it’s an Indian, you can literally walk up to them and ask why you are not playing. Suppose, Rohit Sharma is the captain, you can ask freely on ways to improve, what’s my role in the team but most importantly, the captain should also be interested in what he expects from me,” he added.

The 26-year-old was also surprised when he did not receive an explanation for why he was benched and voiced regret that the squad did not place enough faith in his abilities.

“In the Indian team they talk to you when you are not selected, but it does not happen in the IPL. I remember that I had spoken to the franchise before the IPL but in the matches that happened in the middle, nobody gave me an explanation. I was a bit shocked. I felt like there was no trust like they had no faith in my skill. This happens when the team has many options. KKR now has plenty of spin bowling options,” Yadav elaborated.

Since the 2018 edition, Yadav, popularly known as Chinaman, has been in poor condition. Yadav, along with Yuzvendra Chahal, was India’s number one spinner in limited-overs cricket not long ago.

Kuldeep made his IPL debut in 2016 under Gambhir’s leadership and was expected to have a bright future. In addition, his success earned him a national call-up in 2017.
