Dubai: Alzaari Joseph’s IPL debut in 2019 was as memorable as a bowler would want at the top level. Playing for Mumbai Indians, his 6/12 against Sunrisers Hyderabad entered into the record books making his figures the best by a pacer in the history of the tournament. However, after playing a couple more matches, Joseph got injured and was ruled out of the tournament.

Although Mumbai Indians started their campaign on a losing note against Chennai Super Kings on Friday, Joseph’s presence in the Mumbai camp has raised a few eyebrows. The right-arm pacer wasn’t picked at the auctions. Reports also suggest that he might be used as a net bowler but is not likely to be used that way because the franchise has already picked a handful of bowlers from India for that purpose.

Although the franchise hasn’t announced anything officially yet, Joseph can be kept as an immediate replacement for any injury during the course of the tournament. Earlier this month, Mumbai Indians had roped in James Pattinson to replace their all-time leading wicket-taker Lasith Malinga. The Sri Lankan legend pacer had pulled out of the tournament due to personal issues.
