LIVERPOOL: Portuguese forward Diogo Jota has joined Liverpool for a reported fee of 45m euros from Wolverhampton Wanderers. A day ago the Reds got midfielder Thiago Alcantara and now they have managed to lock the deal of Jota.

The 23-year-old forward started his career at his hometown club FC Porto before joining the Wolves under Nuno Santo three years ago helping their promotion to the Premier League and bringing the team to knockouts of the UEFA Europa League last season. He played 131 games for them overall netting 44 goals while registering 16 assists and was a constant threat to the opposition due to his pace, attacking intelligence and eye for a goal.

Just after his move to Merseyside, Diogo told the club’s official website: “It’s just a really exciting moment for me and my family. All of my path since I was a kid and now, to join a club like Liverpool – the world champions – is just unbelievable. I just want to get started. It is one of the best teams in the world – the best at the moment because they are world champions.

When you look at the Premier League, you always see Liverpool as one of the biggest teams in the country, so it’s impossible to say no. So we just want to come (here), to give our best and hopefully I can become a good option for Liverpool in the future.”

With Jurgen Klopp looking to add more firepower to the attack and bring a cover for the forwards, Jota’s inclusion to the side will certainly strengthen their hopes for defending the Premier League title. He will wear the no. 20 shirt sharing the front line alongside Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane & Roberto Firmino.
