Madrid :Real Madrid were held to a goalless draw against Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday ( September 26). Real Madrid stumbled on the chance to go five points clear at the pinnacle of La Liga table. As, city rival Atletico Madrid suffered their first defeat against Alaves.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side are currently sitting at the top of the table table, followed by Atletico Madrid who are behind by three points as the defending champions lost by a goal to none against Alaves.
Thibaut Courtois was forced to make a handful of saves, to keep the Los Blancos in the came. Among which Arnaut Danjuma came close to scoring for the visitors, only to be denied by the Belgian goalkeeper.
Real also got a couple of chances one when a free header from Eder Militao went wide. Isco and Vinicius Junior combined for the men in white but the opposition stood firm to deny them any chance. The points got shared at the newly renovated Bernabeu.
Although, for the defending champions of Spain a shocking defeat at the hands of Alaves was played out. Victor Laguardia’s header from Ruben Duarte’s corner on four minutes were enough for the visitors to secure all the points.
“We need to improve and ensure that our games are more consistent, because right now they really aren’t,” Diego Simeone acknowledged.
“It’s always tough when the opposition closes up shop. We didn’t have the kind of speed or skill needed to undo them.”
