“Always wanted to win CFL, we can create history..”, Subhasis Bose comments after adding another gem in his crown during Mohun Bagan tenure

Kolkata : Mohun Bagan SG clinched their 31st Calcutta Football League (CFL) crown after 8 years as they defeated Mohammedan SC 3-2 in virtual final of Super 6.

The Mariners in later and crucial stages of the league played with 6-7 senior players and Subhasish Bose led them at a stage when the team was struggling in Group stages. Bose has won almost every domestic titles with Bagan – ISL Trophy, ISL Shield, IFA Shield, but one gem was missing from his crown – Calcutta Football League, which Mohun Bagan failed to win since 2018.

Bose stated that he being always wanted to play and win CFL being a Bengali player.

“As a Bengali Player, I always wanted to play and win CFL, I got a chance to play this season, from the first day I had a thought that if I can win CFL, there’s a chance this season. Mohun Bagan didn’t win CFL for 8 years, we can create history by bringing it back to our club and my boys did and I’m proud on them”.

This CFL season saw emergence of Bengali players. Apart from East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Mohammedan, teams like Bhawanipore, Kalighat, Railways, Customs,United SC, Coal India, and others had such quality Bengali players who despite their age gave tough fight to senior players and Bengal’s “Big 3”.

Bose appreciated the quality and competitiveness of these Bengali players, stating it’s importance to for Bengal and Indian Football, as this will open doors for more Bengali players in National team.

“The quality of Bangali players has improved playing in various teams this season. They’re giving their best, competitive even against seniors, the emergence of more Bengali players will be beneficial for both Bengal Football and Indian Football, more Bengali players will represent the National team. More than Mohun Bagan’s win, I’m feeling proud on the emergence and quality performance of more Bengali players in all teams this season “, Bose reflected.

Mohun Bagan were 2-1 down while facing Mohammedan. A loss or draw could mean Mohammedan or East Bengal could have gone past with the title respectively. But in 20 minutes, the game changed with Sahal and Sayan’s goal and Mohun Bagan came back from behind to win the title. Bose highlighting this tough comeback mentality of Bagan players through ups and downs stated that despite buzz outside, the job as professional Footballer is to wear Mohun Bagan jersey with pride and represent the club, bringing more trophies.

” There’s ups and downs in life and game but our team’s strong mentality to comeback and character for which we became champion and will again be, there’ll be buzz outside always, but our focus and duty as a professional Footballer should be to represent this historic club, respect the jersey and try to bring more trophies”, Bose said.

Mohun Bagan didn’t win any titles since their IFA Shield 2025-26 win. They came near Durand Cup, ISL, etc but didn’t clinch any titles despite dominance in previous seasons. Even last year they could not get past CFL group stage. Despite everything, fans stayed beside them in tough times through ups and downs.

CFL started in 1898 almost lost it’s past glory over the years. There were talks of infrastructure, ground issues, funding problems, low audience turn over, etc. However, this year with the league returning to Maidan once again, saw one of the most nail biting , tense and best leagues in many years. The whole Kolkata was flavoured with Football – a Sports close to everyone’s heart in this city.
