UEFA vice President hints South American to join Nations League

Kolkata: Zbigniew Boniek, the UEFA vice president hinted that the UEFA Nations League is about to look a lot different from 2024. He hinted that South American teams will be joining the competition. The likes of Lionel Messi and Neymer Jr will now be playing against the best’s from Europe.

All the 10 South American teams will join the UNL in 2024. This will be a way to promote the ever-growing relationship between UEFA and its South American counterparts, CONMEBOL.

Alejandro Domínguez, the President of CONMEBOL said, “Together we can do a lot for the development of football and I am very much looking forward to this enhanced collaboration.”

Keeping in mind the collaboration of the 2020 Euro winners Italy will be playing Argentina, the 2021 Copa America winners at Wembley in June in 2022.

“We had a meeting with CONMEBOL, the confederation of South American countries, said Boniek, “From 2024, teams from this continent will join the competition.

“In what format will it be? We’re still working on it. The schedule of matches for the national teams is restricted so you can’t mix it up too much,” Boniek said in an interview.

Boniek also hinted, that six of the top South American countries like Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Chile, and Peru will be included in UEFA Nations League A, which indicates they will face the likes of Italy, England, Germany, and France.

If the Republic of Ireland can maintain a place in League B, they could be facing Venezuela, Paraguay, Ecuador, and Bolivia. The matches will be played in Europe.
