UEFA ceases legal action against Super League clubs

Nyon: UEFA had decided to revoke the disciplinary legal action that had been initiated against the clubs that did not withdraw from the European Super League, namely- Real Madrid, Juventus and Barcelona. The organization made their decision known with a statement.

“Following the stay of proceedings against FC Barcelona, Juventus FC and Real Madrid CF, in the matter related to a potential violation of UEFA’s legal framework in connection with the so called ‘Super League’, the UEFA Appeals Body has declared today the proceedings null and void, as if the proceedings had never been opened.”

The concept of the Super League was introduced in April in an attempt to challenge the UEFA Champions League , but the plan fell apart when the UEFA along with other football association and the fan of the clubs opposed, causing nine teams out of 12 to withdraw their names. However the afore mentioned three held there stance. They released a joint statement stating that they “will not accept any form of coercion or intolerable pressure”. UEFA had announced legal action against the clubs but the latter argued the case stating that UEFA’s punishment was against the European breakaway law.

However UEFA remained firm in their approach against the Super League , in fact they have made appeal for recusal of one of the judges, Manuel Ruiz de Lara in the Madrid court.

“UEFA has filed a motion for the recusal of the judge presiding over the current proceedings as it believes there are significant irregularities in these proceedings,” a UEFA statement read.

“In line with Spanish law and in the fundamental interests of justice UEFA fully expects the judge in question to immediately stand aside pending the full and proper consideration of this motion.

“Further, UEFA shall also be making a formal appeal to a higher court, the Provincial Court of Madrid (Court of Appeal).”

The incidents seem like, although UEFA had dropped the charges against the teams momentarily, they are not ready to let the clubs go scott free after challenging their authority.
