Is Ravichandran Ashwin the reason behind Virat Kohli's stepping down as India’s T20 captain?

New Delhi: According to media reports, Virat Kohli’s decision to step down as T20I captain after the World Cup was prompted by a revolt led by spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin, who complained to the BCCI.

Kohli made the shocking announcement just days after India’s T20 World Cup lineup was unveiled that he will step down as captain in the shortest version of the game.

Kohli stated in a statement posted to his social media accounts that he intended to limit his workload and that he would continue to captain the squad in ODIs and Test cricket.

The veteran player reportedly complained to the BCCI secretary about Virat Kohli making him feel insecure in the team, according to news agency IANS.

In the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in June, the Indian captain reportedly criticized the player of not displaying enough intent.

According to the report, the player was Tamil Nadu off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, according to some of the sources.

If the claims are genuine, the situation will get even more grave, given Ashwin has been benched in all four Test matches against England in the upcoming five-match series.
