Paris : Lionel Messi missed a penalty but Kylian Mbappe arrived to rescue, as Paris Saint Germain edged past Real Madrid by 1-0 at Parc des Princes on Wednesday ( February 16) in UEFA Champions League Round of 16. On the other hand Manchester City ran rampage against Sporting Lisbon with a 5-0 win.

The 13 times UCL winners failed to register any shot on target during the entire game. Whereas, PSG had eight shots on target and enjoyed over 60% possession. Although PSG dominated the entire play, they found it difficult to score. The first half saw no goals scored.

However, into the second Lionel Messi saw his penalty saved by Thibaut Courtois. But during the injury time of the second half Kylian Mbappe, who has been heavily linked to Real Madrid for the next summer transfer, daggered the knife into Madrid.

Mauricio Pochettino, brought in Neymar Jr for the final 20 minutes and the Brazilian produced a backheel assist for Mbappe who sliced the pass past Courtois. It was the presence of the Belgian goalkeeper who helped restrict PSG to just one goal, with a series of commemdable saves.

Elsewhere, Pep Guardiola had a cake walk against Sporting practically burying the tie in the first leg itself, scoring five goals to none. Bernando Silva striked twice, once on 17 minutes and once on 44 minutes.

Among others, it was Riyad Mahrez who opened the scoring for the men in blue. Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling also made their ways to the scoring sheet,as Pep Guardiola in one step too deep into the quaters barring some miracle.
“It’s a very good performance,” Silva said post the match. “I honestly think in the first half we weren’t good enough to be 4-0 up.
