T20 World Cup 2021: Who are the Indian-origin players representing other countries

New Delhi: The ICC T20 World Cup 2021, is starting from Sunday (October 24). The tournament was originally set to happen in India. However, just a few months before the tournament, the BCCI announced that the tournament will be hosted by the BCCI in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), because of the Covid-19 pandemic in India.

There will be a total of 16 teams in the T20 World Cup 2021. The Super 12 stage of the competition will kick-start from October 24 and India will begin its campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on the same day.

All squads are out now, let us take you through seven Indian origin cricketers who will play for another nation in the grand tournament:

Jatinder Singh (Oman)

Jatinder Singh is another India-born cricketer like Ish Sodhi who will be playing for another nation in the T20 World Cup. Singh is one of the players named in the co-hosts Oman squad for the tournament. He has become a star in the Oman side after his blistering knock of 73 runs off 42 deliveries against Papua New Guinea in the Group B match of the T20 World Cup.

Simi Singh will play for Ireland in T20 World Cup 2021. He is the only Indian-origin cricketer in the Ireland team. Batting all-rounder Simi had done well recently against South Africa and now he will be looking to show his stamina in the World Cup.

Ravi Rampaul (West Indies)

The last time Ravi Rampaul represented West Indies at the international level was six years ago. He was 32 back then. He had proven his mettle and was considered a genuine match-winner who played a key role in West Indies’ 2012 T20 World Cup win. The pace bowler once again has earned his way back into the side as West Indies count on his experience in their bid to defend their T20 World Cup title. He is the first pace bowler of Indian descent to represent West Indies and he has picked up more than 190 international wickets.

Sandeep Goud (Oman)

Medium-pace bowling all-rounder Sandeep Goud was born in Hyderabad, India. However, he will be playing for Oman in the T20 World Cup 2021. He has played 15 ODIs in his career so far.

Ish Sodhi (New Zealand)

India-born leg spin bowler Ish Sodhi will play for New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2021. Sodhi bowled brilliantly against India in the last edition of the T20 World Cup. The leg-spinner has taken 73 wickets in 57 T20 Internationals with an economy rate of 8.07 and an average of 21.73

Ayaan Khan (Oman)

Ayaan Khan was born in Bhopal and he even made his T20 debut for Madhya Pradesh in the 2015-16 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tournament in India. Khan made his ODI and T20I debut for Oman this year and he has played just two T20Is so far. Khan is still searching for his first double-digit knock in international cricket.

Suraj Kumar (Oman)

The last Oman player to feature on this list is Suraj Kumar. Suraj is a right-handed batsman born in Punjab. If Oman qualifies for Super 12 and is included in Group 2, Suraj, Sandeep and Jatinder will get the opportunity to play against the Indian cricket team in the T20 World Cup 2021.
