Kolkata: SC East Bengal is allegedly planning to lay off eight of their senior team players in January, as the team prepares to finish high in the eighth edition of the Indian Super League.

After the sorting of the issues with sponsors Shree Cements over the sporting rights of the club, SC East Bengal has taken up some strong measures to ensure success after an underwhelming debut season.

The change started with bringing in former Real Madrid coach Manuel ‘Manolo’ Diaz who has taken up the job of making extensive changes in the team.

He brought in a wide array of talented players like Amir Dervisevic, Tomislav Mrcela, Antonio Perosevic, Franjo Prce, Daniel Chima, and Darren Siodel along with Indian talents like Arindam Bhattacharya. The team has a plethora of talent with seniors like Raju Gaikwad who is most likely to lead the team to the trophy.

However, the arrival of the foreign contingent served as a piece of bad news for a lot of players, as SCEB is seemingly planning to let go of a few of the players whose contracts end the mid-season in January.

Although there is no stern news about the names of the unfortunate players, Subho Ghosh, Loken Meitei, Sarineo Fernandes, Romeo Fernandes are rumored to be among the ones to be laid off.

SC East Bengal will kick their season off against Jamshedpur FC. However, they had a good run in the pre-season friendlies securing wins again teams like Gokulam Kerala, the defending I-League Champions.
