Manchester: Scott McTominay scored the only goal as Manchester United squeezed a 1-0 win over Watford on Sunday (10 January), and booked their spot in the FA Cup fourth round.

The Red Devils took an early lead when McTominay headed home his fourth goal of the season from Alex Telles’ outswinging corner in the fifth minute and took charge of the game.

Eric Bailly and Juan Mata squandered good chances to extend United’s lead to a comfortable one before the interval. Bailly’s header went wide from another dangerous Telles ball into the penalty area.

Mata fired straight at Daniel Bachmann after Donny van de Beek made a beautiful flicked pass but the keeper spread himself and made a fine stop with his body , while Dean Henderson was held on alert to deny Adam Masina.

The hosts suffered a blow at half-time when Bailly was forced off with injury and replaced by Harry Maguire.

United rarely threatened during the dismal second half. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought on Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial with just over 20 minutes remaining in an attempt to inject some life into the home team’s stuttering attack, but Rashford low effort was an easy save for Bachmann.
