SC East Bengal face Goan test in a mouth-watering encounter

Goa: After registering their first-ever victory in the ISL in their previous match, SC East Bengal will look to continue the momentum when they face FC Goa on Tuesday at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco. Both the teams will face each other from a victory and the match would be mouthwatering to say atleast.

East Bengal under the coaching of Robbie Fowler had a very poor start to their ISL campaign. However, their victory against Odisha FC has brought confidence to the side. The likes of Jacques Maghoma and Anthony Pilkington have been impressive for the Red and Gold brigade and the side will bank on them.

The defence will be an area of concern, as the team has conceded 15 goals to date since the start of the season. But as the last match showed the fans a glimmer of hope, they have started to believe that things will turn for them in this new year.

“We want to win games, the lads are in a better space now than what we were a few weeks ago. But like I said to them, we got to go out and play the way we can. If you can play the way you can, you will win games,” Fowler said in the pre-match press conference.

“We are not a million miles away. We’ve won a game but we won’t get carried away. Likewise, when we lost a game early in the season, we weren’t getting carried away then,” he further added.

Goa on the other hand has been a confident side as they won their last two games. The fierce form of their Spanish forward Igor Angulo has been the talking point and has the most number of goals in the league — nine.

Goa coach Juan Ferrando looked a bit worried about their opponents and said, “The team is more compact and has displayed its quality in the last few games. Two weeks ago, there was more pressure as they were in the last position. But when you have three points, the emotions in the dressing room are different. Against SCEB, we have a problem because they come into the game without any pressure or stress. It’s a new opportunity.”
