Merseyside: Despite a dominating performance, defending champions Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by West Bromwich Albion at Anfield stadium in Merseyside on Sunday(December 27). Sadio Mane scored for the home side while Semi Ajay netted for the visitors.

Liverpool lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with Joel Matip being paired with Fabinho at the heart of the defence. Jordan Henderson alongside Georginio Wijnaldum and Curtis Jones formed a midfield trident. Roberto Firmino shared the forward line alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Liverpool started well dominating the possession from the word go and creating chances for them with left back Andrew Robertson constantly putting pressure on the West Brom defence.

Eventually Liverpool took the lead when Matip dinked one into the box finding Mane, who showed excellent technique and composure, receiving the ball to his turning between two defenders before slotting it on the volley exquisitely past the goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

In the second half however, West Brom started to show little bit of intent despite the obvious dominance of the home side. Liverpool also looked a bit less enthusiastic while attacking.

The visitors got their reward as they equalized against the run of play through Semi Ajay who headed it into the back of the net to deny the home side full three points although Liverpool still stand at the top of the table.
