Paralympics 2024 , Men’s Club Throw : Dharambir bags record Gold, Pranav Soorma ends with Silver

Paris : India bagged double medals in Men’s Club Throw event as Dharambir and Pranav Soorma clinched Gold and Silver respectively in F51 Category.

Dharambir finished on top with the best throw of 34.92m, breaking the Asian record, winning Gold.

Pranav Soorma bagged the silver medal with the best attempt of 34.59m in the event.

This is the 1st time India finished with 1-2 in Track and Field event.

Dharambir’s Gold is also the 1st medal for India in Club Throw in Paralympics history.

Gold medalist Dhadambir started on a disastrous note, making 4 foul attempts in a row before recording the 34.92m throw.

That record throw helped the Indian club thrower stay on top of the charts throughout the competition in the 10 athlete field.

Pranav made his best effort in the first attempt and managed five throws over 33m. However, he couldn’t surpass Dharambir and bagged Silver with 34.59m, his 1st throw.

Another Indian Club Thrower Amit Kumar missed out on winning a medal in this event , finishing at bottom with best attempt of 23.96m.

Zeljko Dimitrijevic of Serbia clinched the bronze medal with the best attempt of 34.18m. The Paralympic and world records of 35.42 and 36.22, respectively, stayed untouched.

Dharambir and Pranav’s podium finish, took India to its medal tally of 24 with five gold, nine silver, and 10 bronze in Paralympics 2024.

With Dharambir’s gold, India also equalled their best gold-medal tally of 5 that they achieved in Tokyo three years ago.
