Belgrade: Indian superheavyweight boxer Narender Berwal was eliminated from the ongoing Men’s Boxing World Championship after losing a unanimous decision to Azerbaijan’s Mohammad Abdullayev at the quarterfinals.

The encounter was on a slow pace until the Azerbaijani picked up his game and landed some spectacular strikes. Berwal landed some good blows as well, but it wasn’t enough, as Abdullayev won the opening round with a 4-1 split.

Berwal used a more aggressive approach in the second round, but it had no effect on the judge’s judgement, as Abdullayev won with a 4-1 split.

In the third round, with his campaign on the line, Berwal looked far from his best, as Abdullayev overpowered the Indian from the outset. Then in the final round, the South Asian gold medalist appeared to be out of stamina, surrendering the quarterfinal tamely.
