Cristiano Ronaldo brace keeps Manchester United afloat; Barcelona, Juventus secure victory

Bergamo : Manchester United came twice from behind, to be held in a 2-2 draw against Atalanta in UEFA Champions League. Cristiano Ronaldo scored both the goals for his team and helped them secure a point from the away match. On the other hand, FC Barcelona won their first away match of the season against Dynamo Kiev by 1-0.

FC Bayern Munich took their usual path as they defeated Benfica by 5-2, with a hattrick from Robert Lewandowski and a goal each from Serge Gnabry and Leroy Sane. And with no surprises, Chelsea secured a 1-0 victory over Malmo, with Hakim Ziyech scoring the lone goal.

Atalanta took lead on 12 minutes when Duvan Zapata fed Josip Ilicic who scored a low drive past David de Gea. Although a superb goal from Cristiano Ronaldo helped them draw level just on the half time mark.

Atalanta were again on the lead at 56 Zapata broke past Harry Maguire, although it was initially ruled out for offside but following a lengthy VAR review, the goal was awarded to the Italian side. What looked like another defeat for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side was overturned when Ronaldo scored the second equaliser during stoppage time.

In Ukraine, FC Barcelona secured their first away win of UEFA Champions League season 2021-22. Ansu Fati scored the lone goal on 70 minutes to help his team earn all the three points from the important match to survive in the fight to qualify for the Round of 16.

Fati got on the ball after a cross from Oscar Mingueza was deflected and fired a shot which ultimately gave Catalans all crucial points. Dybala scored a brace as Juventus registered a 4-2 win over Zenit St Petersburg. Federico Chiesa and Alvaro Morata also scored a goal each to secure their team’s place in Round of 16.
