Narayan Das shifts base to Chennaiyin FC; Rohit Kumar pens Bengaluru FC deal

Chennai: Experienced Indian defender Narayan Das has signed up for Chennaiyin FC on a two-year deal from East Bengal. This was the first major signing by the two-time Indian Super League winners. On the very same day, Bengaluru FC added more armoury signing talented youngster Rohit Kumar.

“I am really happy to join a champion team like Chennaiyin FC. My family and friends are also overjoyed. It is every player’s dream to help his team win, and I am no different. I aspire to prove my worth, play every single game and help the club in fulfilling the quest for a third ISL title,” Das stated from his hometown in West Bengal. 

“Even as the opponent I have always enjoyed the atmosphere at the Marina Arena, and I want to tell our brilliant fans to keep supporting us, because it is their backing that gives us the extra motivation.”

Das began his professional career with Pailan Arrows before signing up for I-League side Dempo SC. He made his ISL debut in 2014 with FC Goa before moving to FC Pune City in 2016. He returned to Goa helping the then coach Sergio Lobera’s side reach the semifinals in 2018.

The efficient defender who even has seven assists to his name served Delhi Dynamos and Odisha FC before signing back for his hometown team SC East Bengal in their debut ISL season. The signing of Das will bolster the Chennaiyin defense in the upcoming season after they finished a lowly eighth in the 2020-21 season winning just thrice in 20 games.    

Das is also the second most capped player in the ISL with 107 appearances and would prove to be very necessary for Chennaiyin’s resurgence in the upcoming season. The Marina Machans had also announced the retention of forward Rahim Ali and defender Reagan Singh.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru FC bolstered their squad after they announced the signing of 24-year -old midfielder Rohit Kumar from Kerala Blasters. He is Bengaluru’s first signing of the season and will join the squad ahead of their AFC Cup playoff clash against Eagles FC of Maldives.
