Kolkata : For the upcoming season, Mohun Bagan Super Giant has entrusted Senior Team Assistant Coach Bastab Roy with the responsibility of managing the team in the Calcutta League, appointing him as the Head Coach for the competition. Under Bastab’s supervision, the Calcutta League preparations will begin on Wednesday (June 3, 2026). Practice will commence at the Mohun Bagan ground at 4:30 PM. Nilanjan Guha will serve as Bastab’s assistant coach. The experienced Abhra Mondal will remain as the goalkeeper coach. Towards the end of last season, Abhra handled responsibilities for both the senior and junior teams. Although the preparation starts on Wednesday, the footballers will join the team in stages.
This time in the Calcutta League, along with the reserve bench footballers of the senior team, some junior footballers will also be seen playing in the domestic league in the green and maroon jersey. They will be accompanied by a few successful footballers arriving from other teams. During team formation, emphasis has been placed on youth alongside experience. In accordance with the domestic league regulations aimed at preserving Bengal’s representation, while also maintaining the age-balance requirements of the Federation’s junior league and aligning with Mohun Bagan Super Giant’s footballing philosophy in recent years, the squad has been carefully assembled to include select players with the potential to contribute to the senior team in the future.
Sixteen promising young footballers who impressed in the green-and-maroon jersey during the last Calcutta League will once again take the field this season. Among them are Priyansh Dubey, Diprabhat Ghosh, Tongsing, Mingma Sherpa, Karan Rai, Sahil Inamdar and Subal Tudu. Keeping a long-term plan in mind, Rajdeep Pal has been brought in from the Under-16 team. Rajdeep has already proven himself in the junior division. To strengthen the team, experienced footballers from the senior team’s reserve bench such as Dippendu Biswas, Suhail Bhat, Abhishek Suryavanshi, Kiyan Nassiri and Umer Muther have been included. Successful footballers coming from other clubs like Raj Basfore, Sayan Banerjee and Tanmoy Ghosh have signed contract to play in the green-and-maroon jersey.
Alongside the Calcutta League, Mohun Bagan Super Giant has already sent a letter expressing their consent to play in the Durand Cup, which is scheduled to start on July 15. This time as well, a letter has been sent on behalf of our club urging them to reduce the number of foreign players in the competition so that Indian footballers can get more playing opportunities. Last season as well, a request was put forward to field only Indian footballers in the Durand Cup, keeping in mind the broader development of Indian football. Staying true to that vision, the green-and-maroon have renewed their commitment to this philosophy this year as well.
