Dubai: Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a setback early in the tournament as all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 due to the ankle injury he suffered during the game against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday (September 21). West Indian Jason Holder has been named as a replacement.

Marsh twisted his ankle while bowling in the fifth over of the RCB innings while trying to stop a drive by Aaron Finch in his follow-through. Later on, Marsh courageously showed up to bat at no.10, but it was obvious that it was quite difficult for him to stand even. SRH lost the game by 10 runs against Virat Kohli-led RCB.

“It seems a serious injury. I am not sure if he be able to compete in any of the matches,” a team source was quoted as saying to PTI. It will be a huge setback for SRH, the franchise might now consider presenting 37-year-old Australian all-rounder Dan Christian for the next match, who has the experience of playing 40 IPL games during earlier editions as a middle-order batsman and a right-arm seamer.

SRH captain Warner had praised his countryman for coming out to bat in spite of being in pain. “It doesn’t look great. A lot of courage from him to walk out there and try his best, but it was unfortunate tonight,” Warner told Star Sports. “Obviously, what you saw out there, it was quite painful, he can’t put any weight on it.”

Holder has been part of three IPL teams in the past including Sunrisers Hyderabad and will attempt to add to his 11 IPL caps, the last of which came in the 2016 season playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders. SRH play their second match on September 26 against Kolkata Knight Riders in Abu Dhabi.
