Manchester: Manchester United signed Alex Telles. The former FC Porto defender signed a four-year contract with an option to extend it for a further year. The player was in the Carrington training complex, for his medicals and the official announcement came within a few hours before the closing of the summer transfer window.

The 27-year-old left-back who reportedly agreed on a  £15.4m deal is supposed to fly to Brasil, with the completion of his move to United, for the national duties. The player was in the final year of his Porto contract. He played for five seasons in Porto.

In those five seasons, he has scored 26 goals and registered more than 50 assists. Besides playing for Porto, he has also played for Galatasaray and won league titles for both the clubs in Portugal and Turkey.

United suffered a humiliating defeat when Spurs took advantage of their shambolic defence and won the match 6-1. The new signings would bring in a gasp of fresh air the team was looking for.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised his new signing and said, “He is a player we have been tracking for some time and his performances over the past few years are exactly what we are looking for. He is a fighter and a winner and will add real determination and competition to the squad. Alex has the qualities, both as a player and as a person, that we want here at Manchester United.”

After joining United Telles also conveyed his message, “To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour. You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here.”

“I won many trophies at FC Porto and I want to continue that at United. The manager has a clear plan and direction for this team and I can’t wait to pull on the famous shirt.
