Kolkata : Mohun Bagan SG, despite all struggles throughout their first ISL 2026-27 home game came back strong in last quarter to win 2-0 against Chennaiyin at Salt Lake Stadium, and it was Manvir Singh – their saviour who delivered it from a cross of teammate Liston Colaco, that left Manvir giving full credits to the later.
Despite struggling for whole game, losing Balls and individual battles to Chennaiyin FC players and Vishal Kaith diving to save every shorts on target, Mohun Bagan maintained a clean sheet and scored a goal in 85th minute with help of Manvir and Liston. Manvir stated that despite the performance, their players have the ability to score anytime in 90 minutes but the main aim was maintaining a clean sheet.
“Our main motive was to maintain clean sheet, our players have ability to score anytime in 90 minutes”, added Manvir.
The score was 0-0, fans were stunned with such performance against 11th placed Chennaiyin. But substitute Liston Colaco, who was not in great touch recently came during last quartet and immediately turned the game. He ran past near Chennaiyin defender Namgyal Bhutia, gave a left footed cross from near corner accurately to Manvir who stormed in to chest the Ball past goalkeeper Md Nawaz to give Mohun Bagan 1-0 lead which they maintained to win the game ultimately.
Manvir, despite scoring the winner gave full credits to Liston for the goal and stated that he’s putting hardwork for come back and Manvir expects Liston to perform well in next game even scoring goal.
“Credit goes to Liston for pin point cross, it’s all because of him that I scored. He’s working hard in practice for a comeback. In next game he’ll surely score and play well”, added Manvir.
However, throughout the game, defensive midfielder Apuia’s absence was felt as Chennaiyin toyed with Mohun Bagan defense and midfield. Apuia missed the game and pre match practice sessions due to high fever but is expected to be back soon.
Manvir hoping for Apuia’s comeback stated, “Apuia is our best player, hope he comes back soo to join us”.
Mohun Bagan will now gear up for fresh challenge against Punjab FC on Saturday.
