London : Manchester City met Arsenal in Carabao Cup in which the Gunners were defeated by 4-1 in their home on Wednesday (23 December), and advanced to the Carabao Cup semifinals.
City took an early lead owing to the goal by Gabriel Jesus on 3 minutes, when he met Zinchenko cross and guided his close-range header into the net.
Arsenal equalized before half time through an Alexandre Lacazette goal on 31 minutes. Gabriel Martinelli superb cross from the left was met by Lacazette in front of Laporte and steered a header past Zack Steffen. The game was even at the break and the scoreline stood at 1-1.
City looked far more menacing in the second half, when Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden struck five minutes apart on 54 and 59 minutes to put the match out of reach for Mikel Arteta and co. Aymeric Laporte added the fourth goal on 73 minutes and sealed the game for Pep Guardiola’s men.
