Wembley : Aymeric Laporte scored a goal on 82 minutes to guide Manchester City to yet another Carabao Cup win at the Wembley Stadium. Manchester City defeated Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the final to lift the trophy on Sunday (April 25).

Phil Foden had one of the best opportunities of the entire game to put Pep Guardiola’s men ahead on just 26 minutes but his shot from eight yards off deflected off Toby Alderweireld and onto the post.

Spurs started the second half with much more zeal as Giovani Lo Celso forced Zack Steffen into a rare but excellent save two minutes into the game. The   United States men’s national team player gave a powerful performance after being chose ahead of No. 1 pick Ederson

Hugo Lloris was forced into a number of good saves as City continued to attack which included a powerful shot from Riyad Mahrez on 73 minutes. Although just 10 minutes later Laporte headed past Lloris from Kevin De Bruyne’s free kick, which proved to be the decider.

The loss continues Spurs’ longest trophy drought since the year 1951. Their last title was the League Cup in 2007-08.

“It was a tough game. We knew it was going to be tough. We kept dominating, we kept passing the ball and I think we deserved to win today,” Mahrez said after the game.

“You are always scared because it is a good team but we are confident in our game. We are very happy. You have to win whether you play good or not — today I think we played good and won.”
