Barcelona: La Liga president Javier Tebas announced on Thursday that he would not help adjust the La Liga financial rules to make Argentina talisman Lionel Messi’s stay at his home club, FC Barcelona. The club is trying to make financial adjustments to accommodate new signings as well as to keep Messi , after the star’s contract expired in June however with the financial rules of La Liga it seems to be of great difficulty.

While the officials were expecting a hand from La Liga, in helping to keep the Legend in Spain itself, Tebas quashed all the hopes after stating he would not do anything to tweak the rules for the extension of Lionel Messi and refusing to treat Barcelona any different.

“No, I won’t (turn a blind eye) for Messi, it’s impossible. There are many workers (at La Liga) and in the economic control (department) as well. This is a right that the clubs have and we have to safeguard the integrity of La Liga,” Tebas said.

“We often have to explain [the economic controls] to agents and players because they don’t know about it or think clubs are deceiving them, and we’ve had to explain it in recent years.”

“We’ll have to analyse everything properly, because if there are dismissals for economic reasons but then they bring in Messi and others… we’d have to look into that.” he continued.

“Right now I can only give my opinion, and that is that it is odd that there has been no offer (for Messi( from Manchester City or Paris Saint-Germain. And I firmly believe there isn’t and that the player wants to stay.” he added.

While there has been multiple news of interest from European hot shots like Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City even with Inter Milan coming forward to sign the Copa America-winner, recent reports in Spain say that the Argentine is set to stay at Barcelona and has even agreed for a 50% wage reduction to stay at his boyhood club where he has always expressed his desire to retire at.
