Kolkata : BCCI has announced Indian squads for ODI and Test Series against Afghanistan. While Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli retain their respective places in ODI setup, Jasprit Bumrah has been given rested following hectic IPL schedule. Several new faces also march in on back of good IPL and domestic season.

The Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI senior men’s selection committee met in Guwahati to finalise India’s teams for the home assignment against Afghanistan.

Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from both Test and ODI squads as part of workload management. The decision has been taken by the selectors and team management, keeping in mind his long-term fitness and the heavy international calendar ahead. Bumrah, who remains a key figure in India’s pace attack across formats, has been carefully rotated since returning from injury to avoid any risk of recurrence.

“Bumrah will be back when we tour England. He is working on his workload,” Agarkar said while speaking to the media.

Ajit Agarkar clearly stated that the selection committee didn’t even discuss Mohammed Shami.

“We have been told that at this point, T20 cricket is what he is ready, so there was no discussion regarding Mohammed Shami,” Agarkar said at the team announcement.

Ravindra Jadeja has been left out of both India’s Test and ODI squads for the upcoming series against Afghanistan national cricket team.

The selectors announced separate squads for the one-off Test and three-match ODI series, but Jadeja’s name was missing from both lists.

ODI

Captained by Shubman Gill, the ODI side features veteran legends like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Kohli is having dream form both in IPL and International Cricket. In last 3 ODI series, he smashed 3 hundreds, and in IPL 2026 (till now), he has scored 542 runs, including a century. Rohit Sharma despite having rough patch in IPL 2026 due to injury issues, scoring only 2 half centuries, cannot be ignored in international Cricket as he’s a different beast there. He already did show his abilities in Australia and South Africa series.

Shreyas Iyer, the vice captain of the side, did have a great first half in IPL as captain and Batter. Ishan Kishan, who’s in form of his life has been the pillar of Sunrisers Hyderabad with 490 runs in 13 matches, playing a vital part in their playoffs race. His addition to middle order will be vital and will return to the ODI Setup after 2023.

India’s talisman allrounder Hardik Pandya will be a key in this squad in all departments. Despite having poor IPL, his international abilities can’t be ignored. However, his selection in playing xi will be subjected to fitness, as he’s also missed few matches of IPL too. Young allrounder Nitish Reddy is also in the squad and it will be interesting to see how he’ll be used. The spin bowling allrounder Washington Sundar also adds great depth and bowling options.

New faces like Lucknow Super Giants speedster Prince Yadav, who impressed with his line and length, wicket taking abilities in flat decks, grabbing 16 scalps in 12 matches have earned maiden ODI call up. Along with him, Gurnoor Brar has also earned maiden call. Harsh Dubey, the in form spin bowling allrounder is also amongst the new faces.

Experienced guns like Left arm pacer Arshdeep Singh, right arm speedster Prasidh Krishna, chinaman Kuldeep Yadav earn places in the squad.
