Kolkata: After a disappointing run last season in the ISL, Jamshedpur FC has appointed Owen Coyle as their head coach in a two-year deal for the upcoming season. Coyle who previously managed last year finalists Chennaiyin FC, is keen to work at ‘The Furnace’. Reportedly, Coyle has declined Chennaiyin’s one-year deal offer.

Coyle’s numbers with Chennaiyin are catastrophic. His win percentage with Chennaiyin (53.3) was the second-best of his coaching career after his co-managerial stint with Scottish side Falkirk (63.2) whom he led to the Scottish Football League First Division title in his debut season as a coach in 2003.

“I am very conscious of the passion & support you have for the team. I love it! My aim is to put together a winning squad on the field that enjoys, wins, & puts a smile on your face. A team that plays good football, represents the fans and makes them proud,” Owen said to the fans after signing. “Narender Gahlot and Amarjit Kiyam are a huge asset. There are some hugely talented players in the squad already and I am excited to work with them and strengthen them.”

The 54-year old helped Chennaiyin to the final after a disappointing start last year. Sadly, his team lost the final to ATK losing 1-3 at the Fatorda Stadium in Goa. He changed the course of the team which was lacking confidence.

Jamshedpur FC management is keen that Coyle will be their man as the team has failed to qualify for the play-offs since their inclusion in the league. Last year despite a good team the Jamshedpur failed to deliver in the later stages of the league, resulting in another failed season for the club.
