IWL 2022: Gokulam Kerala FC retain coveted title sinking Sethu

Bhubaneswar: Gokulam  Kerala FC beat Sethu FC 3-1 in league deciding encounter of the Indian Women’s League 2022 at the Kalinga Stadium as they retained their Championship title.

 

 

Defender Ashalata Devi orchestrated the comeback, after the team fell back to Sethu FC following a  early conceded goal. Forwards Manisha Kalyan and Elshaddai put the Malabarians ahead in securing the title.

Gokulam Kerala FC maintained a around performance throughout the league as the team won all the 11 games played with a goal difference of 62.   Elshaddai and Manisha Kalyan emerged as the top goal scorers of the tournament with 19 and 13 goals respectively in 11 appearances. The stout defence consisting regular starters for the Blue Tigresses like Dalima Chhiber and Ashalata Devi only conceded four goals. Skipper and custodian Aditi Chauhan made a string of saves in keeping the title hopes intact.

Indian Women’s League will acts a huge pivot in bolstering the culture of women’s football in India. Despite coming fourth in the league, AIFF’s women’s set up Indian Arrows had also been quite impressive in their debut season.
