ISL 2023-24 : Odisha FC fall to a narrow 3-2 defeat to FC Goa in a close encounter

Goa : Odisha FC continued their ISL 2023-24 campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 loss in their first away game of the season at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Friday.

In the early stages of the game, Mourtada Fall found the back of the net in the 6th minute by skillfully converting a corner delivered by Puitea with his feet, giving the Kalinga Warriors an early lead.

In the 25th minute of the game, Jerry Mawia attempted a brilliant cross for Roy inside the box, but it was well intercepted by Arshdeep.

The First half witnessed an outstanding defensive effort from Fall and Carlos as they combined forces to block a shot attempt from Goa, showcasing their commitment to maintaining a solid defence.

The second half saw FC Goa’s Noah Sadaoui coming into the spotlight. In the 55th minute, Noah converted a penalty with a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner, scoring for the Gaurs. He continued his spree in the 68th minute, netting another goal with a right-footed shot from the center of the box, putting the home team in the lead.

Mourtada Fall once again showcased his scoring prowess in the 81st minute, sending a thunderous right-footed shot from the center of the box to the top left corner following a corner and equalised the score.

In the dying moments of the game, Jay Gupta scored with a left-footed shot from the right side of the box to the top left corner, assisted by Víctor Rodríguez following a corner, securing the victory for the home team.

Looking ahead, Odisha FC will aim to bounce back in their second away game as they face Kerala Blasters. The match is scheduled for October 27th, Friday at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi, marking a brief pause in the league action due to the FIFA international break.
