Chennai: Goals rained as Mumbai City FC beat Chennaiyin FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai. The visitors had an intense second-half to beat the host 6-2 in the Indian Super League (ISL). Mumbai City FC found six different goalscorers, after falling 2-0 behind just past the half-an-hour mark.

Petar Sliskovic gave the hosts the lead in the 19th minute, setting off an uproar in the Marina Arena. Rahul Bheke deflected Sangwan’s corner delivery before it reached Rahim Ali. The Islanders gave up the opening goal of a game for the first time this year when the striker lobbed the ball across the goal and Sliskovic headed it in from close range.

The Marina Machans extended their advantage in the 32nd minute. Prior to rolling it in the direction of El Khayati, Sliskovic charged Mehtab Singh. Mehtab blocked the Dutchman’s initial effort, but the rebound was wonderfully placed in the near post.

Mumbai’s deficit was reduced to one during the following minute. Stewart zipped the ball in from the right wing as the Islanders raced ahead. To make it 2-1, Diaz outran his defender and headed the ball past Debjit Majumder.

In first-half stoppage time, Lalengmawia Ralte beat Debjit to the ball and was taken out in the process. The referee pointed to the spot and booked the keeper. Stewart stepped up to take it and sent Debjit the wrong way to reinstate parity in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

The game turned on its head four minutes into the second half. Bipin pulled the ball back towards the edge of the box and Rai smashed it in with his first attempt at goal.

At the hour mark, the visitors scored once more to take a two-goal lead. Only Dakshinamurthy at the edge of the box was able to reach the corner kick from Ahmed Jahouh. The defender kicked it through and it went into the goal.

Alberto Noguera, the Islanders’ third replacement of the game, also contributed a goal in the 65th minute. After receiving the ball from Bipin, the Spaniard fired a powerful effort that Diagne deflected, allowing it to creep in at the far post. At the very end, Bipin was once more involved in the action. He skipped past the defence and tucked the ball into the goal to become Mumbai City FC’s all-time leading scorer with 16 goals.
