Chennai: The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium witness their arch rivals of Indian Super League (ISL) finish in a draw, giving Bengaluru FC and Chennaiyin FC a point each. Roy Krishna gave the Blues an early lead with a goal after only five minutes, but Prasanth Karuthadathkuni equalised just before halftime. When goalie Debjit Majumder was dismissed late in the second half, the Marina Machans were reduced to ten men for the remainder of the contest.

The first goal, scored by Roy Krishna in the fourth minute, came quickly and startled the Marina Arena crowd. Siva Narayanan curved a cross with the outside of his right foot into the box from the right flank. Krishna’s exquisite glancing header sent the ball in the Chennayin FC goal. From from point on, the home team dominated the game for the majority of the time.

In the fifteenth minute, the Marina Machans had a fantastic opportunity to tie the game. From inside the box, Ajith Kumar crossed the ball back to Prasanth Karuthadathkuni. The midfielder’s shot was directly at Gurpreet Sandhu, who effortlessly grabbed the ball. Chennaiyin would have been tied if the shot had been made on either side of the goalkeeper.

Karuthadathkuni dribbled towards the Bengaluru FC area in the 26th minute before being stopped by the defence. With a close-range volley, Petar Sliskovic, who was hit by the ricochet, rocked the crossbar. After less than five minutes, Fallou Diagne’s pressure on Krishna caused him to fall to the ground in the box. After the referee failed to indicate the spot, the striker became enraged.

In the penultimate second of first-half stoppage time, the pressure paid off. Sliskovic got the better of his defender to set Karuthadathkuni up for a score. The Marina Arena came back to life with the final kick of the first half as the former Kerala Blasters player easily evaded the offside trap and sent the ball past Sandhu.

Ninthoinganba Meetel and Kwame Karikari, the hosts’ substitutes, connected in the 79th minute, but Sandhu blocked Karikari’s shot. Debjit Majumder’s red card for pulling Krishna out of the box eight minutes from time reduced Chennaiyin FC to 10 players.

Up to the end of regulation, Chennaiyin FC’s goalkeeper was Iranian defender Vafa Hakhamaneshi. Karikari ran toward Bengaluru’s goal in the third minute of stoppage time before shooting high.
