Goa: FC Goa’s horrendous start to the Indian Super League(ISL) campaign as Jamshedpur FC crushes them 3-1at the GMC Athletic Stadium, Bambolim in Goa on Friday (November 26). Nerijus Valskis struck a second half brace, became the hero of the match for Owen Cole’s side with another one coming from Jordan Murray towards the final minutes while Airan Cabrera did manage to get a consolation for Goa.
Gaurs manager Juan Ferrando brought Jorge Ortiz after last week’s defeat though his side failed to impress on the field despite having much of the ball on the feet playing with a flat 4-4-2 formation. Their high pressing attacking gameplay was unable to flourish due to Jamshedpur’s good positioning.Jamshedpur saw their opening in the first half as youngster Komal Thatal’s effort from the left from a short corner found the back of the net but it was waived off owing to an offside.
Valskis looked good from the start and found his opportunity just before the break but had to scratch his head after his effort getting denied by Goa goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh who earlier saved Len Doungel’s effort to keep his side at bay.
Goa tried hard after the break to broke the deadlock through a couple of chances through Edu Bedia and Alberto Noguera though were denied by TP Rehenesh.
However it Jamshedpur who went against the run of play to open the scoring as new signing Greg Stewart make the most of Goa’s mistake to lay a ball off for Valskis, who’s clinical one touch and low driven shot beat Dheeraj before the Lithunian striker extended it pounced on another Greg Stewart ball, this time from a free kick, to head home.
Jordan Murray sealed the game for Jamshedpur as his right footed shot from the centre of the box found the bottom left corner.
Goa’s possession game didn’t have a productive impact on the field with their players unable to finish off chances. Edu Bedia came the closest in the 83 minute hitting the crossbar. However the Gaurs did score a consolation goal through Airam Cabrera who’s left footed shot from the centre of the box found the net after being set up by Jorge Ortíz with a cross.
The Gaurs are now reeling at the bottom after thr defeat while Jamshedpur earned full points to go atop the table.
