Viacom 18 acquires 2022 FIFA World Cup media rights

Mumbai: Reliance backed Viacom 18 bagged the media rights of FIFA World Cup 2022 beating contenders like Sony and Star. The network clinched the deal for 450 crore rupees.

Since commencing sports telecast in 2018, the network had went on to telecast a numerous number of sporting events including top European leagues like La Liga and Serie A. Viacom is also reported to be in a race against Sony, Disney and Star for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 telecasting rights.

The network would benefit greatly from the deal , with the tournament taking place in Qatar , the less time difference would assure a lot viewers and a lot of new sponsor deals can come in their way.

Viacom 18 have reportedly received fresh TV Channel rights from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the network is eventually planning to launch a new television channel ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022 where the matches will be telecasted.
