ISL 2021-22: Mumbai City FC humiliate ATK Mohun Bagan 5-1

Goa: Mumbai City FC were through and through dominant as they beat 10 man ATK Mohun Bagan 5-1 in the 2021-22 Hero Indian Super League (ISL) at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda,Goa on Wednesday( December 1).

Vikram Pratap Singh scored twice on 4 minutes and 25 minutes, Igor Angulo added the third on 38 minutes, Mourtada Fall extended the lead further on 47 minutes, Bipin Singh scored the fifth of the night on 52 minutes. David Williams pulled one back on 60 minutes coming off the bench.

Mumbai City made two changes since their shocking 3-1 loss to Hyderabad FC, Mandar Rao Dessai started at left back position while Vikram assumed Raynier’s place on the right wing.Whereas, Antonio Lopez Habas kept the side, which asserted themselves on the Kolkata derby, unchanged.

Youngster Vikram took less than four minutes to put his team forward as he repaid the faith Des Buckingham bestowed on him. The forward who is known for his pace, was at the right position to receive a square pass from Bipin Singh,which went through an ATKMB defender’s leg. Vikram did not hesitate as he shot it first time into the net, nutmegging the opposition goalkeeper Amrinder Singh.

The wave of attacks remained relentless,and kept flowing. When another build-up play from the left side, from Bipin’s delivery, Vikram shot it, which was stopped by Amrinder, but Vikram got it right from the rebound, the ATKMB defence were left with no solutions.

Bagan’s difficult state of affairs was highlighted more so by their zero shots on target during the entire first half’s play. City kept on dominating as Mandar’s cross was laid down in the path of Angulo by Mourtada Fall, Angulo made no mistake tapping it home on 38 minutes, putting his side three goals ahead before the break.

Deepak Tangri, was sent off right after the match resumed after first half, with numerical disadvantage ATKMB were in more trouble. City took advantage and made it 4-0,Jahouh delivered a great ball inside the box from a freekick and it was headed in by Fall.

City added their fifth through Bipin, who kept his calm in spite of being pressed by two ATKMB defenders and slotted it past Amrinder. A consolation goal was pulled back for Bagan by David Williams on the hour mark. The match ended 5-1 in favour of the defending champions.
