Durand Cup 2022: Jamshedpur FC taste first win; Hyderabad FC outclass Chennaiyin FC

Kolkata: The youngster of Jamshedpur FC tastes their first win in the 131st Durand Cup. The 84th minute strike by substitute Tapan Halder broke the deadlock. Jamshedpur FC played against FC Goa at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan (VYBK).

Undoubtedly, Jamshedpur FC were deserving winners, through their dominating proceedings, in the first half.

JFC were more enterprising of the two teams in the first-half with Vinil Poojary making the attack. In the 20th minute, Vinil squared to Keisan, who found Lalruatmawia clear inside the box on the left. The diminutive attacking was bought off with a crucial save from FC Goa keeper Hrithik Tiwari

In the second half, Jamshedpur FC coach Carlos Santamarina made an effective double change, bringing in Lenin Singh and Tapan Halder in the 53rd minute. The changes began to nourish. In the 70th minute, Ruatmawia was deemed to have been brought down in the box and referee Srikrishna pointed to the spot. Vinil Poojary’s kick was guessed right by Hrithik who brought off a comfortable save.

Jamshedpur FC finally broke the deadlock with Phijam Vikash Singh aiming at Tapan with a cross from the left. Tapan, won the ball ahead of his marker, took a touch forward and beat the keeper with his placement.

Both JFC and FCG have three points with one final game to go in the group for them.

In the other game, Hyderabad FC register their second win the Durand Cup 2022 tournament. Hyderabad FC (HFC) beat 10-man Chennaiyin FC (CFC). Bartholomew Ogbeche scored a brace for the winners in the second-half. Joao Victor had also converted from the spot. However, Chennaiyin FC had their sole goal from Anirudh Thapa just before the half-time whistle.

Chennaiyin FC had a bright start, maintaining possession in the middle of the park. They created openings with captain Anirudh Thapa dominating all around. Chennaiyin FC took the lead through a stunner from the skipper. Sajal Bag spot Thapa running inside the box. He finished delicately by taking the shot off balance, which stunned Hyderabad keeper Lakshmikant Kattimani.

Hyderabad FC started on the front foot in the second half. Keeping the full fledged attacks from the beginning. The introduction of Bartholomew Ogbeche made them more meaningful.

Hyderabad FC skipper Joao Victor scored from a penalty, to even up proceedings. Hyderabad FC took the lead in the 64th minute through the redoubtable Bart Ogbeche.

The 10-man CFC were finding it difficult to contain the attacks. Nim Dorjee’s cross from the right fell in no man’s land and it was retrieved by Lalchungnunga Chhangte. His pin-point cross for Ogbeche, had the Nigerian ace head it into the goal for a second time in the match.
