ISL 2021-22: Jamshedpur FC stun ATK Mohan Bagan

Goa: Jamshedpur FC continued their unbeaten run in the season as they stunned ATK Mohun Bagan 2-1 in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the GMC Athletic Stadium in Goa on Monday. The victory saw Jamshedpur climb to the second spot while Bagan slipped to number 5 suffering back-to-back defeat.

Seiminlen Doungel struck the opener for the Men of Steel with Alex Lima scoring the second after coming on as a substitute late in the second half. Pritam Kotal pulled one back for the Mariners in the final sectors.

Amrinder Singh was called into action for Bagan as he save a powerful left-footed low curling shot from Greg Stewart from the right flank but was unable to save the next one as Seiminlen Doungel found space on the edge of the box at the right flank and made no mistake in hitting the ball past the Bagan goal-keeper’s right side to give JFC the lead.

The Mariners could have taken the lead before the break Roy Krishna’s effort went into the net but the narrow-angle shot from the star striker escaped TP Rehenesh’s grip and was rolling inside the goal until Eli Sabia cleared it from the line. The second half was a bit scratchy early on for both sides as they are unable to finish off the chances they created.

Despite that, JFC extended their earlier narrow lead through substitute Alex Lima swapped with Stewart and the Brazilian struck within seconds after entering the field as his left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty box found the net late in the game.

The Mariners didn’t give up as Pritam Kotal lunged ahead to put a loose ball inside the back of the net giving his side a lifeline with very few minutes left although appealed for an offside but the referee awarded the goal. However, when Coyle’s men defended well as a unit to secure an important for their campaign.
